Facilities at the Museum

The Volkswagen Museum of Puerto Rico is located in Yauco, on Highway 121 leading to Sabana Grande, only a couple of miles from the Highway No.2 at exit number 198. The Museum is approximately a 90 minute drive from San Juan, and only a 20 minute hop from the city of Ponce.

The facility is composed of four major structures. The main building and reception area is located immediately to the left of Carr. No. 121 and will be easy to spot because of the special VW theme graphics and a real life size Beetle mounted on a special made tower over the museum.

The Main building has 40,000 square feet of exhibition area that include the reception area, souvenir shop, and ticket office. Once you cross over the portal leading to the museum, you leave all your worries and preconceptions behind, and enter the world of Dr. Norman and his family of Volkswagens.

Blue ceiling high side walls give the effect of the sky and the painted store fronts lead you to the City of Volkswagen, Puerto Rico. The city has its own fire stations, police station, "colmado" or market, a barber shop, recreation park benches, sidewalks and even a church with a historic bell on its tower. You will find commercial banks, auto parts, speed shops, and even a couple of commercial banks.

At the end of the main building, you will find a separate exhibit for VW transporters, special service vehicles, campers, flatbed VW trucks and more.

Outside the main building, there is a second building under construction that will hold special monthly changing exhibits that will display vehicles of different brands and interests. Near future plans will have a third building that will connect building one and building two and will house close to one hundred additional vehicles.

Not everything is held inside. For those that enjoy the tropical sun and breeze, there is a special gazebo area around which there will be several transporter and camper units in exhibition.
